Have you ever walked into a place and just had a bad feeling about it, maybe even needing to leave? Are there places you visit that feel really good and warm? Do you have a friend who seems to drain your energy, leaving you emotionally spent? What about those people who make you feel good just to be in their presence? What’s going on when you get a “vibe” about a place or person? How does your home? Would you like to remove negative energy from your home?
What you’re feeling is energy. It’s all around us and within us. Everything in our world is energy vibrating at different frequencies. It makes sense then that we can feel shifts in energy around us, like the energy vampire friend or the warm, friendly home. Mental illness makes us especially susceptible.
As parents of kids with mental illness we may be especially susceptible to negative energy and attachments in our physical space and within ourselves. We often deal with emotional outbursts and anger. Our homes can be filled with worry and fear. The anxiety and depression can be palpable.
With nowhere to go the energy it gets trapped and starts to compound within everything, including you. I know this is true for me. My home starts to feel unsettled. I don’t sleep well and have more bad dreams. My thoughts are more worrisome and dark. My daughter and I argue more. Her emotional state is more fragile. I begin to absorb the negative energy and can become emotionally overwhelmed.
Here’s the great news! You can easily clear this negative energy and quickly improve the vibe within your home and yourself. I recommend that you do this every day but especially when you feel energetic shifts, become unsettled, feel that your home and thoughts are heavy, or you have any type of indicator that I mentioned above.
How to clear negative energy from your home.
Below are three easy ways to get rid of negative energy and improve the vibration in your home and self.
- Open the windows and play music you love.
Getting clean air and sunlight into your home can do wonders to clear negative energy. You know how your mood can change when you play your favorite song? You’re feeling the energy shift. Playing music you love raises your vibration is an excellent way to replace the negative with positive, healing energy.
- Clean your space.
Having a clean and organized space raises the vibration of your home. Try to keep your space clean, as much as possible. Go ahead and move things around. Shake things up. Add plants. Having a space in order keeps your soul and mind calm, improving the vibe around you.
- Burn Sage with intention or prayer.
If this feels right for you, burn sage or palo santo wood- whichever is your preference. (both can be found on Amazon). You could have it burning in rooms that feel heavy. You could also walk through each room thoroughly waving the burning sage. At the same time asking (out loud or to yourself) that all negative energy and attachments be removed and replaced with light and love. Put a little prayer in there to provide protection, especially around the doors to the home. There’s no magic way to put forth intention so make it your own.
You can do the same thing on yourself. Wave the sage smoke around you with the intention of clearing any negative energy or attachment and then replacing the space with healing and love. You can also do this with intention alone. There are a lot of short meditations online, if you prefer to be guided.
So, just start.
As with anything new, the point is to become aware and start… anywhere. Try not to overwhelm yourself. There’s no perfection here. Small steps everyday add up. If this seems like too much, maybe start by paying attention to the energy in your house and how it shifts. Just start… it could make a world of difference in your life.
